Like everything else, the world of dogs has its own jargon. Here is a collection of common jargon and abbreviations:
Wins
BOB - Best of Breed
WB - Winners Bitch (only female for that breed to earn points towards a championship that day)
WD - Winnders Dog (only male for that breed to earn points towards a championship that day)
BOW - Best of Winners
BOS - Best of Opposite Sex
BIS - Best In Show (once earned, this honor is listed in front of the dog's registered name)
BISS - Best In Specialty Show (once won, this honor is listed in front of the dog's registered name)Breed ring - (Conformation) dogs are judged on how they conform to their breed standard
Special - a dog that has already earned their championship but still being shown to earn ranking points
Finished - obtained a championshipAKC Titles
Ch - Champion
CD - Companion Dog - this title is earned in the first level of AKC obedience
AKC Prefix titles (in front of a dog's name)
AKC Suffic Titles (behind a dog's name)Health tests
OFA - Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
PennHip - University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program
CERF - Canine Eye Registry Foundation
CHIC - Canine Health Information Center
CHF - Canine Health Foundation
