When looking for a breeder, it's important not to let price by your highest priority. There are no "bargain puppies". Quality puppies do cost money and price shopping can often lead to high vet bills and heartache as you try to treat an unhealthy puppy.

There are lots of slick sales people out there that would love to take your money. There are also lots of people that love their dog and "one" just like him/her. Most puppy buyers are under the impression that as long as the breeder cares about his/her dogs that things will be alright. Ignorant, although caring, breeders can be just as harmful to future generations as the unethical breeder. Producing sound dogs with stable temperaments and no major health problems takes more than loving your pet.

The more you educate yourself about what traits to look for in a breeder, the less likely you'll be taken and the more likely you'll end up with a healthy, well tempered dog.
